Animals
There are nearly two million animal species that have been identified up to now. The vast majority of these are invertebrates; that means that they do not have a backbone (spine). Most animals are cold blooded, so they use the natural heat of their environment and the heat from the Sun to maintain their required body temperature.
Carnivores eat other animals, birds and insects. Herbivores eat only plant leaves and grass.
Animals range in size from elephants and Blue Whales down to mice and insects, some of which are very small!
